GOSETTO The Italian Giant

Founded in 1977, the firm Gosetto first started up its activity in the sector of construction of fairground
attractions in the hills to the north of the River Piave, in the heart of the province of Treviso. Little by little it
grew, thanks also to the important investments which have made the name of the firm known all over the
world with the goal of realizing high quality products, placing the satisfaction of the client first. Over the
years various products have been realized; here we name just a few: bumper-cars, mini-bumper-cars,
merry-go-rounds, rodeos, flying cages, (petrol-run)go-kart tracks and electric karts, all of which are
accomplished in various versions, both for permanent fairgrounds and for travelling shows, on the basis of
various themes which are tailored to meet the requirements of each single client. Backed up by a well-
prepared engineering office together with its highly qualified workers, the firm has dedicated time and
resources to the research and development of new attractions right from the beginning. Among the
novelties which have emerged in recent years, particularly worthy of mention are the attractions realized
on track such as the Superskate, Ghost Trains, as well as the Fun Houses and many others designed for
adults and children alike.
It all started in the Venetian Piedmont area of Northern Italy where in the period immediately after
the war there lived a quiet family of simple farmers, honest people who were known to be a family of
fishermen who fished in the River Piave. The year was 1958 and the name of the place was Sernaglia
della Battaglia – here, a young boy of just 13 years of age called Elio Gosetto, started to work for a well-
known firm in the area that had business with the FAIRGROUND sector: it was here that he was to
come into contact with the “fairground world” for the first time.
This is the story of how that young boy started his adventure in the sector of the construction of
fairground attractions and of mechanical carpentry: an experience that was to take him far. The boy
showed resourcefulness and was quick to learn, in a short time he came to know and love “the art of
working iron”, amusing himself by creating with his own hands all kinds of different objects in wrought
iron for friends and family. the story Back in the factory, the first task entrusted to the boy
was to paint the rides produced by the firm: bumper-cars, mini bumper-cars, darkrides, dodgems, merry-
go-rounds with horses.As time passed, the young Elio came to be esteemed by his colleagues, not least for
his dedication to the work in hand. He was noticed by his employers and was assigned tasks of assembling
and mounting for some of their clients. This gave Elio an opportunity to meet other manufacturers in the
field, and to travel all over Europe, earning himself the approval of those same clients who offered him the
possibility of working in their company. Today Elio, no longer a young man but undoubtedly still full of
energy, remembers with a smile the first go-kart track installed at the military base of Vicenza:
the first piece of the mosaic design that over the years was destined to become enriched with many
other gratifications.He was strong and enterprising, eager to “do something on his own”, so much so
that after the usual 11 hours of work in the factory, he began to lay down the foundations for “his own
work”, at his parent’s house – in a tiny spare room he carried out the first little jobs in wrought iron, such as
railings, gates and even cages for animals, involving his younger brothers Valentino and Angelo in
the adventure as well.With regard to “doing something by himself”, Elio still recalls today without wasting
any words:“The first love of my life was without a doubt working wrought iron, and then I turned to rides. If
I hadn’t been successful with the rides I would have become a fishmonger or a lorry-driver, but a
subordinate for all my life – well, I drew the line at that!”
The firm grew and moved its site from Sernaglia to Moriago della Battaglia; the original historical place
where it all started, however it was certainly not left unused (behind Elio’s house); for a while the Gosetto
brothers used it to build the ‘Pano’ (the panels which make up the flooring of the bumper-car and mini
bumper-car rides), and later as the area for all the painting and varnishing, and as a storehouse.
In 1989 the Gosetto brothers, almost for a bet, decided to build the first bumper-car ride mounted on a
trailer, more commonly known as ‘scooterino’. The ride in question was built without it having being
ordered and without a purchaser. The brothers decided to try their luck, hoping they would be able to sell it
soon. So, thanks to a gamble on the future with this shot in the dark, the Gosettos realized for the first time
the product that would make them famous all over the world. The ride did not take long to sell, in fact, with
the help of a well-known Italian firm that had contacts in many different countries abroad, the Gosettos
managed to sell the ride immediately after completion, to the Radostics family in Austria. It was precisely
the Radostics family that in due time was to give the Gosettos immense satisfaction as they

testified to the excellent quality of the product: twenty years after buying the first bumper-car ride, they
came back to the factory at Moriago della Battaglia to order a second one, which just goes to show that
quality pays.Valentino remembers those first years in which the budding firm was growing and everything
seemed like an adventure: “In 1997 we took a children’s ride on a trailer to Rimini expo. For the occasion
we organized a coach for all the workers together with their families to celebrate the first twenty years of
activity, taking advantage of the trip to visit the city of San Marino on the way back.
Elio stayed down for the whole duration of the fair to deal with the business relations while I stayed on at
the factory in charge of things there: that was how we had organized things between us. The race-tracks
were becoming longer and longer, there was more business and a lot of work: after the first expansion of
the warehouse we decided to buy the building next to it, and that’s how we gradually built up the firm, bit
by bit”.
